My friend and neighbour Ron had informed me of quite a large number of dolphins and porpoises frequenting the Kyles of Bute (the narrow sea way between Bute and the mainland). He kindly offered to take me on his RIB when weather permitted, so as yesterday seemed fairly benign, we ventured out from the ferry slipway at Rhuboduch.
Ron decided to travel to Inchmarnoch first, but before we had ventured far from the Kyles, the wind started to increase and it became too rough to obtain any photographs so we turned around to try our luck in Loch Riddon.
On our way back past Teignabruich, we spotted a pod of dolphins, but they were quite shy, and although I obtained a few “record” shots, there were no opportunities for any good images.
Once in Loch Riddon, the sun decided to shine, and almost at the same time we spotted a very friendly harbour porpoise who spent a while circling our boat and allowing for several dozen photographs.
I have also included some other wildlife images and a couple from the Rothesay golf course which highlight the natural beauty of our island.
I now have a shop open in Rothesay from where I sell my images both as framed prints and also on a variety of other media. The good thing is that we are busy, the bad thing is that I don’t have as much time for photography!

Well done Phil, great shots of the porpoise. I have been trying with little success for ages. Glad to hear the shop is doing well.
